POW! POLIÇA!

Minneapolis' Poliça delivered they're debut album, Give You the Ghost, on Valentine's Day this year  and if it was not love at first listen they're live show at The Independent last week surely pulled at heart strings.

The petite Channy Leaneagh dropped a bomb in the sold out club when she emitted sounds and lyrics so big my mind wandered to the likes of fellow female powerhouse PJ Harvey for said strength behind her vocals which struck me and left me in awe. Continuously making eye contact with one another through out their set it was plain to see that Poliça not only fed off the energy from the crowd but also from each other which, sadly, cannot be said about most bands onstage these days.

Give You the Ghost's flawless production was delightfully present on stage causing a commotion through out the crowd at the start of the acute heart felt song Amongster and fans sang along to Poliça's dark yet simultaneously optimistic I See My Mother while Leaneagh conversed with her audience between songs even admitting to hitting the whiskey bottle beforehand.

Bottom's up  Poliça,  your R&B infused trip-indie tunes, stellar live performance and personable attitude leave you ahead of the pack and in the lead for  best new band of 2012.

Introducing The Royal Concept

Thursday night marked not one but two debut performances in the US, at The Mezzanine in SF to be exact with up and comers The Royal Concept opening and stealing the show!

Adolescent angst was apparent as the audience grew larger and larger packing the club to capacity for the sold out show and nearly two hours after doors the show began just in time.

Over speakers or in headphones one cannot deny the very catchy, youthful Phoenix-esque sound, however on stage The Royal Concept swap neat and tidy for unbridled fun, both had and shared.  Camera phones snapped pics and caught vids of the platinum blonde front man while whispers asking the question, "what's the name of this band?" circulated throughout their set, solidifying my assessment that the next time these Swedes tour they will be the main act.

If their self titled EP which includes the infectious single Gimme Twice doesn't fill your Royal void rest assured their debut LP is coming this fall!

Totally Enormus Extinict Dinosaurs killed it at The Independent

It may be a one man act but T.E.E.D himself, Mr. Orlando Higginbottom, packs his act with monster dance beats which in turn packs houses as it did Wednesday night at San Francisco's Independent.

Glow stick carrying, feather head dress and dinosaur hat wearing fans filled the venue with an exuberant excitement transforming the club into a full fledged dance party upon hearing the first T.E.E.D song of the night.

Preforming under his signature feathered collar and an outfit busy with patterns Orlando moved back and forth between buttons consuming the set with experimental electro-neon pop tracks like Promises, Your Love and LP title track Trouble.

Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs shouldn't run into any trouble staying off of the musically endangered list as he continues to tour playing sold out shows across the US.

Catch T.E.E.D if you can!

Sprinkles is the Hostess with the mostess

En route to Sprinkles cupcakes, pondering what cupcake to have I thought I'd give my dear friend's favorite lemon flavor a go plus, it's sweet-tartness would enhance the enjoyment of the sun filled Friday afternoon. Alas, lemon was not on the day's daily menu.

Sprinkles calls it Chocolate Marshmallow, I call it choco-mallow: Belgium dark-chocolate cake, marshmallow creme and bittersweet chocolate ganache and because individual descriptions aren't advertised in the store I took my first bite not knowing what to expect aside from deliciousness.

Initially my first bite brought back childhood memories of Hostess cupcakes you know the ones: two per pack, creme center with a chocolate dipped top accented with a white loopty lou...Sprinkles Chocolate Marshmallow cupcake is the grown up version made from scratch and minus all of those store shelf preservatives.

The marshmallow creme center contained no resemblance of a gummy-messy marshmallow consistency; it was indeed a marshmallow cream alluding to the flavor of marshmallows and while belgium dark chocolate cake can be easily overpowering especially when it is topped  off with rich chocolate ganache, Sprinkles managed to find a lovely balance as not to over-indulge anyone's palate.

The only thing missing from Sprinkles cupcakes? Sprinkles.
