The Ivy Room in Albany

In April, Brooklyn Vegan announced that the punk rock trio Potty Mouth was going to tour North America with Dressy Bessy, Collen Green and Justus Profitt this Summer. On Saturday July 21st it was Albany's turn to see what SPIN Magazine calls "alt-rock excellence" at Ivy Room.
At $15 a ticket, the price was right and the Ivy Room is a quaint little venue with a dive vibe, the perfect setting for an emerging punk rock band. Think dark and loud with a small stage and a pinball machine. And it's all run by ladies, how punk is that?!
Abby (guitar and lead vocals), Ally (bass) and Victoria (drums) came on around 9:00 following the one woman show opener, Colleen Green. The East Coast trio was a four piece that night with Nikki, a lavender haired Nor-Cal local joining Abby on guitar.

After a little technical issue two songs in, which launched the lead vocalist into an early, impromptu bout of banter with the crowd they, really warmed up on stage. By the third song, "22" the whole band was rocking out. Ear plugs were definitely a must in the midst the of whirling bass, ripping guitar and crashing drums.

"Cherry Picking" off of their 2015 EP was the only song they played that night that isn't on their latest release, SNAFU. It's their second full length, studio album which came on March 1st, 2019, six years after their first LP. After a vibrant set full of fast punk riffs to get your blood pumping and a rather personable performance, Potty Mouth wrapped up the set with my personal favorite off of SNAFU, "I Wanna".

After touring with Against Me!, The Go-Gos, CHVRCHES and Skating Skating Polly and playing gigs like Last Call with Carson Daly, these ladies from Massachusetts were probably stoked to play a venue were their Green Day idols rocked the same stage as The Cover Ups.

Summer is almost over, but Potty Mouth is still on tour. They'll be back in The Bay Area on October 6th at The Ritz in San Jose with The Bombpops.
